Via NME We heard it before, it was nixed, and now it'''s happening again. Pixies' Frank Black recently spoke to NME and revealed that the band will return to the studio to record their first album since Trompe Le Monde, released over 15 years ago. "Since we got back together we've played almost everywhere we can," says Black. "I know we like playing and everyone likes touring together, so to keep doing that and not record anything is kind of like being a county fair band. We don't want to do that, so the only thing we can do is become a vital band again. So it's just a matter of doing it, I guess." I think many of us had that 'county fair' notion as the band endlessly toured and the thrill of their reunion, without new material, slightly wore off. So I'm glad to hear they're gonna give a new album a go - and hope it's for real this time. But will it be a Mission of Burma-style triumph, or a Jane's Addiction style nightmare? I'm shaking in my boots. In the meantime, Black says they will be doing something they do best: releasing (yet another) Best of disc for the new year.
