Panda Bear’s lauded Person Pitch was actually a collection of singles. Most people who heard the album after closely following Noah Lennox’s solo career would have been familiar with the tracks already—five of the seven songs had already been issued prior to the record’s release.
Now, it looks like the singer is about to go down a similar route for his much-anticipated Tomboy, which has a tentative September release date. According to Amazon, the release of “Tomboy” backed by “Slow Motion” on July 13 on Paw Tracks will be “the first in a series of limited edition seven inch singles by Animal Collective's Panda Bear.”
The product description continues: “There will be several limited singles total (on different labels), and each one will bring us closer and closer to the much anticipated release of the Tomboy full length.” So it looks like Tomboy will follow the pattern set by Person Pitch—and by making items that are so clearly desirable, Lennox may have hit on an effective way to get people to shell out cold hard cash for his music.
