New Music: Gorilla Zoe - "Hood Figga (RMX)"

Gorilla Zoe enlists the help of southerners Rick Ross, Young Jeezy, Yung Joc, Big Boi, and Harlem Diplomat Jim Jones for the remix to his lead single, ''"Hood Figga.''" Though the lineup seems ideally suited to the playful, bouncy soundscape and tone of the track, the track is an uncomfortable affair, with only half of the guests seeming entirely comfortable. Besides Zoe, only Jeezy, who has a knack for letting his flow fill the entire track, and Jim Jones, whose Harlem swagger is surprisingly well suited to the southern bounce here, mesh with the production. By contrast, Rick Ross has an uncharacteristically falling in line with the beat, and easily accessible mainstream sounds have never been in Big Boi'''s wheelhouse. As a result, an impressive lineup comes off as jarring, turning what was an anthem into something like a jam session, in tune at times and sloppy at others.
