New Music – Chris Cornell: Ghosts

Following the demise of Audioslave, Chris Cornell had some time to wallow all alone in a nice studio with mega-producer Steve Lillywhite. As previously reported, the resultant album Carry On (due out June 5) features a bluesy cover of Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean.” Here’s one of the originals, called “Ghosts.” This one hews a little close to the pop/hard rock crossover ballad template set up by the likes of Extreme and Mr. Big, but of course there’s always Cornell’s Black Crowes Moan to elevate it…Cornell has been on the “front mega-successful rock band, break up mega-successful rock band, release not so successful solo record,” so let’s hope he figured out that last part the second time ’round.
