Is the new MGMT album completely unlistenable? The band’s record label can apparently rest easy, because this stream of Congratulations on the NPR website hints that it might not be the uncommercial volte face people were fearing after the leak of “Flash Delirium.”
It’s certainly a more challenging listen than Oracular Spectacular, but that’s to be expected if you enlist Sonic Boom from Spacemen 3 as a producer and start naming songs after Television Personalities frontman Dan Treacy. Head over here to listen to the album in full while it streams for a limited time ahead of its April 13 release.
meh.
also streaming at the band's site (http://www.whoismgmt.com/) with the following message.
Hey everybody, the album leaked, and we wanted you to be able to hear it from us. We wanted to offer it as a free download but that didn't make sense to anyone but us
this definitely has a Pet Sounds feel to it, but i'm not hearing anything outstanding in their move away from pop.
i think this album is kind of bad.
Jonsi from Sigur Ros just put out this amazing cover of MGMT's Time to Pretend:

i think this album is actually quite good. flash delirium sounds more like a single-worthy track with each play. and siberian breaks is awesome.

I don't understand the hate on this one. They went and said a thousand million times that it would sound different, now that it does people are complaining?

I never really got into MGMT. I heard the title track from Congratulations today, and have to say I like it.
