New Hold Steady Album, 'Heaven Is Whenever,' Due Out In May

It's been nearly two years since Hold Steady delivered their last missive (2008's Stay Positive). But fear not Hold Steady fans' they've got the new one in the can and ready to go. Heaven is Whenever, the band's fifth album, is due out on May 4 via Vagrant. The band claim this one is going to be "less anthemic" and they name-check Jon Brion and jazz composer Terrence Blanchard as heavy influences. Whatever the hell that's supposed to mean.

Here's the track list:

Heaven Is Whenever:

01 The Sweet Part of the City
02 Soft in the Center
03 The Weekenders
04 The Smidge
05 Rock Problems
06 We Can Get Together
07 Hurricane J
08 Barely Breathing
09 Our Whole Lives
10 A Slight Discomfort
