Spin definitely gives us an oversimplified picture of Dinosaur Jr.'s legacy by saying they "influenced Nirvana and laid the foundation for the grunge movement," but they do try to offer us a few tidbits of news in here about the forthcoming Dinosaur Jr. album. And who isn't ready to hear more about that?
Well, as it turns out, there's not much else to tell. They don’t give us a release date, although it appears they're on track for a summer release via Jagjaguwar. And we don't get a full track list, just a few songs titles like "Because I'm On and On," "You Are Weather" and the two-chord, Barlow-penned "Imagination Blind."
The real new piece of info in this "news" is Lou Barlow's claim that the new album is "totally old school." He goes on to say that, "[The album] sounds like our first three."
This promise comes part and parcel, however, with Barlow's feeling that there was something wrong with their 2007 reunion album, Beyond. It's not surprising to hear a constant bummer like Barlow complain, but Spin appears to side with him in the piece, lazily calling the album merely a "respectable alt-rock effort."
Let's forget for a second that Beyond was undeniably excellent, and that alt-rock isn't a real thing. If Barlow is right, and the new album is more urgent than their last one, this thing is going to be downright dangerous to listen to. [Spin]
