New Dexy's Midnight Runners Album Set For 2012

It’s been 26 years since Dexy’s Midnight Runners released the excellent (and, it’s fair to say, wildly misunderstood) Don’t Stand Me Down. Kevin Rowland attempted to reconfigure the band with a new lineup in 2003, but little has been heard from Dexy’s since then. 

But now comes news of a new record by the group, which is apparently set for release in 2012. Rowland has revealed on Twitter that the group is currently rehearsing songs in the studio, with a lineup that includes two other original members, bassist Pete Williams and guitarist Neil Hubbard. It’s hard to say whether this is good news or bad, especially considering Rowland’s tortuous solo venture in the ‘90s, but a new Dexy’s album will certainly be an intriguing prospect.

“Dexys new album,” reads the first tweet on the account. “Can’t really say why, because it’s hard to put it down to any 1 thing, but it’s working. It’s early days, but so far so good.” [via The Quietus]
