Darren Aronofsky’s The Fountain was one of the strangest, and most unintentionally hilarious, features of the last couple of years. So where is the acclaimed filmmaker turning to for inspiration for his next opus? The answer, perhaps surprisingly, is to wrestling. The Wrestler tells the tale of a once-great wrestler named Randy “The Ram” Robinson, who attempts to get his career back on track with one last bout against a former competitor.
Aronofsky has turned to New Jersey’s favorite son Bruce Springsteen for a little help with the soundtrack. Springsteen has penned an acoustic song that will play as the film closes, and the director says it “makes me choke up every time I hear it. He really captured the spirit of the film.” The Wrestler stars Mickey Rourke and is due to be screened at the New York Film Festival in October. [Pitchfork]
Can't wait for this movie.
Whoa. Easy on The Fountain there.
It might be overwrought, but I love it. Don't make me send in the immortal brain surgeon conquistadors.
