Part 2 of today's heavy metal news that has no impact on Americans at all: spiritualist sludgesters Neurosis have announced the first batch of bands playing their self-curated Beyond the Pale event at the Roadburn Festival, set to take place at The 013 in Tilburg, Holland on April 25th, 2009. Says Neurosis co-leader Steve Von Till (pictured) of the event: "The mission of Beyond the Pale is for us to honor the spirit and power of sound with people that we feel are kindred spirits. We want to bring together a diverse group of people who push the envelope, are truly original, and have that unspeakable fire and inspiration flowing through their art."
He's definitely on the right track with the first four acts announced: The Young Gods, Guapo, Akimbo and U.S. Christmas each have their own take on dark, textured rock psychedelia. Let's ignore the fact that three of the four selections are signed to the Neurosis-run Neurot Recordings and just bask in their uniform quality, shall we? The remainder of the 15 Beyond the Pale performers will be announced in the coming months. Neurosis are also set to perform.
