The hype for TRON Legacy has been a little hard to understand from the get-go; though the trailers have been impressive, there are very few people who actually admit to having seen the original. Now that Los Angeles Times writer Christopher Lee has confirmed a cameo by Daft Punk, it's only harder for hipsters to decide whether they are ironically or genuinely hyped to hit the theaters. The only real point of comparison are the Stars Wars prequels, but in that case it was the cruel reversal of movies that everybody loved being followed by awful sequels. This might mean, given opposite rules, that Tron LEGACY will be ground-breaking entertainment. Hopefully that's true, but it could just be another case in the "You Can't Go Home Again" file, and Daft Punk and Jeff Bridges' younger self will both strike the movie from their resumes.
