Neneh Cherry & The Thing Cover Madvillain, The Stooges On New Album ‘The Cherry Thing’

Gorillaz and Teddybears collaborator Neneh Cherry, who you might know for her ’80s dance hit “Buffalo Stance,” has revealed quite the interesting project. She and free-jazz group the Thing have joined forces to record The Cherry Thing, an eight-track collection featuring one original and seven covers.

What’s particularly interesting about the covers is the fact the two acts are taking on some intriguing choices, like Madvillain’s “Accordion,” the Stooges’ “Dirt,” and Martina Topley-Bird’s “Too Tough to Die.” The most straightforward reworks will likely be those of Cherry’s own “Cashback” and Ornette Coleman’s “What Reason,” though we’re also looking forward to hearing them.

You can view the track listing below. The album drops June 19. [P4K]
