Pop stars like Beyonce and Usher have been taking some flack lately for having performed for the family of Libyan leader Col. Muammar Qaddafi, the guy who's long ignored the concerns of the international community and is having his army shoot citizens. In return for their 20 minute or so performances, the artists were allegedly paid in excess of a million dollars. It probably seemed like a good deal at the time, before it became clear that Muammar Qaddafi is the kind of crazed leader that encourages violence that leads to the death of thousands of his own people.
It's not a good look for the musicians, which is why Nelly Furtado, who performed for members of the Qaddafi family back in 2007, pledged today to give away the million bucks she received as payment. It's a sweet gesture, especially since Furtado hasn't been as widely criticized for her performance as other artists have.
