It was only ten days ago that Neil Young embarked upon his Twisted Road tour to promote his forthcoming, as yet untitled, release. Rumored to be produced by Daniel Lanois (Bob Dylan, U2, Peter Gabriel and Emmylou Harris), Young’s new work has been described by David Crosby as being “a very heartfelt record.” As the solo acoustic clips below demonstrate, Young is still at the top of his game, writing with poetic sagacity in the form of world-weary cautionary tales. In the wake of the treacherous oil spill in the Gulf Coast, a war with no end in sight, and earthquakes ripping through the globe destroying entire communities, Young’s work seems more crucial now than ever. In “Peaceful Valley,” he asks: “Who will be the beacon in the night/Who will be the one to lead the nations/And protect Gods creations?”
