Neil Young Takes a Fork in the Road on New Album

Go ahead and laugh. So what if Neil Young has stated that his new release, Fork in the Road, will be a concept album about electric cars? This is Neil Young we're talking about, remember? It probably seemed positively hysterical back in the '80s when he announced he'd be releasing an electronic-oriented New Wave album and singing an old Buffalo Springfield tune through a vocoder. Or when he informed the world he'd be releasing an all-rockabilly album. Or when we learned that he'd made an album of big-band jump-blues tunes, years before the swing revival. You get the idea.

Again, this is Neil Young, the man whose picture appears in Webster's next to the definition of "unpredictable." The only thing that would seem truly odd at this point would be Young following the path of so many of his contemporaries and just making one unremarkable album after another with barely any discernible difference between them. So let his (just a second, let's add this up) 34th studio album tell the story of the electric car on April 7, and let Neil be Neil.
