Neil Young receives arachnid honor

Neil Young has lent his name to a lot of things over the years in the name of making some bank (belt buckles, rolling papers, a couple of inscrutable movies), but the latest use of his name is more in the name of posterity than profitability. East Carolina University biologist Jason Bond, a lifelong Young fan, has used the singer’s name to christen a new species of trapdoor spider, the Myrmekiaphila neilyoungi. Bond said that in addition to Young’s music, he had a “great appreciation of him as a musician and an activist.” Young has yet to release a statement, though he might be reworking the lyrics of “Transformer Man” into the far more appropriate “Spider Man.”  [Idolator]
