In what seems to be another futile grasp at Internet relevancy, MySpace is reportedly attempting to purchase iMeem, as that company appears to once again be swimming in unhealthy financial waters after they restructured their company earlier this year in efforts to remain afloat.
With the purchase, iMeem’s streaming music technology, which was free for users, will go to MySpace, which is allegedly phasing out their own free streaming technology, making this a double-blow to streaming music fans. MySpace would also acquire the rights to former digital music wholesaler Snocap in the deal.
What continues to remain unclear is whether or not MySpace realizes simply purchasing intellectual property with a lowercase “i” at the beginning of its name, like iMeem and iLike, doesn’t actually make them Apple. [The Daily Swarm]
