My Bloody Valentine ready to return to studio, new album on the horizon

When most bands that go on an "extended hiatus" the length of My Bloody Valentine's, we fully expect never to hear from them again. But MBV, proving that "hiatus" is not synonymous with "breakup," no matter what the length, has formed again, and now they may be (wait for it) putting out a new album. But after bankrupting Creation Records, producing zilch with Island Records, and a nervous breakdown by Kevin Shields, we can finally expect another album by the best shoegaze band ever.

After multiple aborted attempts to produce a third album in the 90s, Shields is finally ready to return to the studio to finish off an album that is "pretty much three quarters made." The album will be finished with nothing but independent support. That makes sense, since no major label would want to touch the band now, despite their heavily anticipated tour and recent Mojo Honours award for Loveless.  This is the kind of project the Internet was made for.

Color me ultra-skeptical. The "new MBV album!" headlines pop up from time to time, but the finished product always seems just out of reach. I'm pretty sure one a few years ago even threw out that "75%" figure cited here. Considering that Mr. Shields is fussing over reissue liner notes, just how much will he stress over final track mixing?

Poor guy... I think he just needs to get this album's albatross off his neck and move on.

That's fair, but we'll see. The fact that they're even performing again is a good sign.
