My Bloody Valentine plays first reunion show

The My Bloody Valentine reunion officially got underway on Friday as the band played the first of its two low-key shows at the ICA in London. My Inland Empire was at the show, and reports that the band started out slightly tentatively, but “they soon found their stride and hammered an hour and twenty minute set amid screen projections and strobes.”

The set list featured tracks from Isn’t Anything and Loveless, and various songs (“Cigarette in Your Bed,” “Thorn,” “Slow”) from the EPs released on Creation. Simon Reynolds believes the combination of these EPs “would make for the ultimate MBV album, I think, knocking the two proper ones way out of the park.”

The band finished Friday’s set with a 20-minute version of “You Made Me Realise,” and North American fans are advised to reach for their earplugs when the September/October tour dates roll around. Here’s the full set list from the ICA.
