Muxtape search engine launched

Justin Ouellette’s Muxtape site is a great (and easy) way to share 12-song mixes with people. Its legal standing seems a little cloudy at present, although Ouellette states: “Labels big and small have told me that they're excited about Muxtape as a model for discovery and ultimately selling music.”

The simple interface has undoubtedly made Muxtape an attractive proposition for users, although there are a few features missing. Ouellette says in his tumblr blog that M4A/AAC and last.fm support is coming, but there’s no sign of a much-needed search engine. Enter Muxseek, the ultimate Muxtape search site. Muxseek offers a simple interface that allows users to search by artist or song, taking them to a list of appropriate Muxtapes.

This is a Muxtape I made a while back. I particularly recommend the R. Crumb track, although it's definitely not safe for work.

Muxtape is great but the creation of Muxseek makes it even better.

muxseek rules. it's like the low-fi version of, "customers who bought this item also bought..."

Try www.muxtapestumbler.com if you want to search by artist for muxtapes...

imeem.com > muxtape

why go to another site so search?
why limit yourself to 12 tracks?
why limit yourself to mp3s?
why limit yourself to tracks you upload?
why use a site that's not paying the artists?

Seriously, people need to at least try imeem.com (which is 100 times more popular) before hailing muxtape as 'teh awesumnesst'

@Nuclear sometimes less is more.
imho muxseek and muxtapestumbler are unpleasant to the eye. My fav: muxfind.com, much more muxtape-style!

@Nuclear: I love that! And that's the whole concept. It's just not a second Napster!

Gosh! www.muxfind.com is so much better than any other search tools I've used for Muxtape.

imeem limits some songs to only 30 seconds which is bogus.
I just delete those. When I tried Muxtape I actually thought I was going to get an embed like on Mixwit.com

at the top of muxseek it states:
"muxseek stopped crawling muxtape"

for good idk, but it seems the "execs" might be more comfy with something like muxfind.com which makes you look around and doesn't display what the song title is.

muxtape will sell out in due time like napster. it's a shame ppl can't share music freely without someone with their hand in the pot getting pissed. i say leave it up to the artists.
