MTV To Begin Financing Music Videos, Probably Still Won't Play Them

· by

In addition to bringing attention to the horrendous meat dress problem in the United States, employing telephone-wig makers everywhere, and occasionally making music, it appears Lady Gaga's smash success has reinvigorated mainstream pop culture's feelings toward the music video. A New York Magazine article credits Gaga's success, as well as the consistent viral presence of bands like OK Go, as the reasoning behind MTV's recent relaunch into the music video game. The TV giant has even begun financing music videos for bands.

MTV is beginning a new series of music videos starring a-list talent for creative filmmakers. The series is a collaboration between Kashy Khaledi of Mean Video and MTV's Executive Vice-President of New Media, David Gale. The first is LCD Soundsystem's "Pow Pow," featuring Scott Pilgrim and Twilight actress Anna Kendrick, which you can check out above, and was creatively directed by David Ayer, the writer of Training Day.

Not gonna lie, anything that gets The Hills off the air sounds good to me, and if its LCD Soundsystem videos, well, all the better. [Daily Swarm]

MTV sucks. They don't care about music videos, they care about the cash cow that accompanies lady gag and ok go videos. but you're right, at least i don't have to see whiny brats from california anymore.
