MTV, which of late has been inundating viewers with frightening amounts of “reality” television in prime time, is developing an evening “music variety show” to air this summer. The program will feature video premieres, live performances, and artist appearances. This sounds like TRL is switching time slots, but the show is a different entity and will be filmed in MTV’s Los Angeles studios. MTV's Los Angeles branch is definitely the "fun" one, focusing exclusively on shows such as The Hills,Singled Out and A Shot at Love, while New York has balanced TRL with slightly more challenging fare such as Real Life and Made. Given that the West Coast is in charge, viewers might be waiting a while for something other than drop-ins from Lauren Conrad and a performance from Good Charlotte. Hopefully though, the sight of a video running in prime time will cause programming executives to remember a time when viewers tuned into a higher class of exploitation. [Idolator]
I actually liked Rob and Big and Life of Ryan. Both those shows ended abruptly without warning and in their places come the Real World and Tila Tequila. Horrible.
