MTV freelancers schedule walkout
Freelancers at MTV are the latest group of workers in the arts and media to protest what they believe are unfair corporate policies. In response to a new freelance agenda by MTV Networks that limits health care and eliminates paid holidays and 401k plans, disenfranchised workers have planned a 3pm walkout today.Similar to the writer's strike that has forced Hollywood to air reruns and the theater strike in New York that nearly crippled Broadway, the MTV freelancers hope to draw attention to their plight by using the only leverage that they have; themselves. According to an incendiary bulletin announcing the walkout, 50 percent of MTV employees are freelance and by definition not privy to the same benefits as those who are full time.

yes, i did. and i stepped out again today. there were like half the people but bow wow got into it today! well, kind of. he was at trl. he was a floor up and on the other side of a sealed window. he struggled to decipher what we were trying to chant and joined us for a chorus or two. then people started singing, " i want my...i want my benefits" to the tune of dire straits. i started questioning who i was fighting for and had to leave.
