Though MTV has been touting recent efforts to encourage its viewers to embrace green behavior, some residents of the Republic of Panama might have a few words to say about the network’s environmental impact. Locals are accusing the cast and crew of Real World / Road Rules Challenge of hiring local police to serve as security, then cutting down a “large plot of rainforest” and debarking without remediating the area. An account written by Jmaher and Michael Drake compares the damage to that of a tornado, and observes that “squatters” are already occupying some of the structures utilized during production. Details are still emerging and MTV has yet to comment on the incident. Maybe the network could explore True Life: Cleaning Up a Beach. [Sustainablog via The Daily Swarm]
