It's been six years since glitch-y German experimentalists Mouse on Mars released a record, but that's set to be rectified early in 2012 with the release of Parastrophics. The duo of Andi Toma and Jan St. Werner has gained acclaim in the past, not just for their own music, but also for high profile collaborations with Stereolab and Mark E Smith from the Fall.
The new record will surface on Feb. 28, and it sounds like it will follow in approximately the same vein as the band's prior efforts, with a press release promising a "funky and deep" sound. But some changes are also likely to be afoot--especially as the recent Paeanumnion project the pair undertook was a purely classical piece.
Parastrophics was recorded at Mouse on Mars' new studio in Berlin, where the duo recorded using music software of their own invention. The results are likely to be as forward thinking as everything they have done to date in their storied career.
