Mos Def set to play Chuck Berry (no, not his songs)

In what will surely be the latest in a long line of well-publicized music biopics, news is filtering out about the upcoming movie about Chess Records, the venerable blues label that gave the world Howlin’ Wolf, Chuck Berry, and Muddy Waters.

The latest bit of info reveals that rapper Mos Def has been chosen to play Chuck Berry in the upcoming film, Cadillac Records. Def joins a film already starring Beyonce (as Etta James), Adrien Brody (Leonard Chess), former OZ star Eamonn Walker (as Howlin’ Wolf), Jeffrey Wright (as Muddy), and Cedric the Entertainer (as prolific song writer Willie Dixon).

The film is poised to hit theaters in late 2008.
