Moogfest 2012 Lineup Revealed: Primus 3D, Santigold, More

Asheville, North Carolina can claim one of music’s pioneering visionaries as one of its own. Bob Moog–inventor of the Moog synthesizer–lived in Asheville for a good part of his life and spent time as a research professor at UNC-Asheville.

He passed away in 2005, but since 2010 his former homeplace has put on an annual music festival in his honor. The third iteration of Moogfest will take place October 26-27, and the lineup has just been released. Among the highlights are Primus 3D, the “first ever traveling 3D-enhanced live musical tour” that accompanies experimental-funksters Primus. The fest will also feature Miike Snow, Santigold, Squarepusher, Pantha du Prince, and none other than GZA performing his 1995 classic Liquid Swords.

The more rock-centric names are buoyed by new indie supergroup Divine Fits, the Magnetic Fields, Explosions in the Sky, and more. All of Asheville will be utilized for the festival, with venues ranging from a big civic arena to more intimate club settings. Tickets go on sale Friday, August 10 at noon EST via the festival’s website. Check out the full lineup below.
