MOG.com, the Berkeley-based music community site that receives around 1 million uniques a month, has just had received $2.8 million in angel grants from the likes of Sony BMG, Universal Music Group, among others. While other music community sites have more traffic, MOG's strength is its independent spirit and sense of community. Combine that with the healthy relationship with the music industry established by MOG's founder, former Gracenote exec David Hyman, and you've got $2.8 million in grants for the nearly two-year-old site. Gracenote itself has recently been sold for $760 million. [Venture Beat via Alley Insider]
