Shigeru Miyamoto, the brain behind some of the greatest video games of all time, is lamenting that his latest creation, Wii Music, didn't hit the shelves before button mashing virtual music games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band. While those games have become staggeringly popular by requiring players to perform the most basic of actions to successfully "play" songs, Wii Music offers a potentially much deeper experience. Players might initially feel a little weird working the game's nunchuck interface, but they can use a palette of fifty different instruments to customize a variety of tunes, from "Woman" by John Lennon to Madonna's "Material Girl." It's understandable that Miyamoto is bemoaning the timing of the product. Gamers used to the flashy interface and rock heavy soundtrack of Guitar Hero or Rock Band might be turned off by Wii Music's cartoony graphics and limited song selections. What remains to be seen is whether Wii Music will deliver on its potential, and even if it does, if gamers will put down their fake guitars to try it out. [MTV]
