The collaboration of Islands’ Nick Thoburn, Man Man’s Honus Honus and Modest Mouse’s Joe Plummer (featuring young Hollywood star Michael Cera on bass) is releasing two new tracks today via record label Sub Pop’s website. Users can download songs “Mister Heavenly” and “Pineapple Girl” by giving Sub Pop their email addresses and instantly being sent a download link.
So, how does this “supergroup” as the Internet’s music critics are calling it sound on record/laptop speakers? Maybe it’s because Thorburn’s voice is so recognizable these days, but it sounds like Islands. And we’d like to remind our readers that’s a good thing. But, those looking for the out of control strangeness of Man Man shouldn’t get their hopes up.
The band is at Lincoln Hall in Chicago tonight as part of this weekend’s Tomorrow Never Knows festival, and tickets are still available for their show at the Bowery Ballroom in New York on Sunday.
