Prefix Magazine in no way endorses the societal voyeurism that has led to the exploitation of many artists and three seasons of Flavor of Love, but there are exceptions. When an article purports to have collected the top ten weirdest rock and roll deaths, there’s no excuse for not checking it out. Guilt aside, however, the article isn’t that revelatory. Randy Rhoads makes an appearance of course (though his name is misspelled) and Sonny Bono is mentioned for his fatal tree collision. The Death of Toto dummer Jeff Porcaro due to an allergic reaction to pesticide was unexpected, but not really weird. The same can be said for the three electrocutions, two instances of Death by Russian Roulette, and the rumored demise of Mama Cass via sandwich. Though all of these deaths are slightly outside the norm, none of them are really WEIRD. When promised the ten weirdest deaths in rock and roll, there’s an expectation of the subjects being done in by a piece of exotic sushi or their robot butler. Until something really strange happens, this list is downgraded to ‘notable’.
