Million Dollar Bashers Revealed!
The soundtrack for Todd Haynes' new Dylan movie I'm Not There lists many tracks featuring the Million Dollar Bashers, which begs the question: Who are The Million Dollar Bashers? The super backup group was assembled by Sonic Youth's Lee Ranaldo and has Steve Shelley on drums, Television guitarist Tom Verlaine, Wilco guitarist Nels Cline, guitarist Smokey Hormel, keyboardist John Medeski and Dylan bassist Tony Garnier. I think all they need is Bootsy Collins.

nels cline and john medeski together... wow. Should be fun. Two masters of improv solos debuting on a bob dylan cover album. shouldn't leave too much room for free form jamming though |

The entire 2 disc album -- all 34 tracks -- is awesome. I discovered a few "new to me" singers, like Cat Power. I now have her "greatest hits" downloaded from eMusic. I find myself listening to I'm Not There, over and over. Dare I say that all of the musicians are really, really good. If you like Bob Dylan's lyrics and share his thoughful human rights concerns, this album is simply MUST HAVE MUSIC. |
