Teen-pop songstress (and possible Electra Complex case) Miley Cyrus has nabbed the number one spot on Billboard’s Top 200, as her solo album, Breakout, (her first without the Hannah Montana brand explicitly behind her) has moved 371,000 copies in its first week out. It’s the second biggest debut for a female singer this year, behind Mariah Carey’s 463,000-copy debut for E=MC2.
But of course, Billy Ray Cyrus Jr.’s sales are dwarfed by that of a decidedly non-Disney Lil Wayne (unless “Lollipop” is really just about candy, and the bitch referred to in “Let the Beat Build” is a pug), who moved more than a million copies of his Tha Carter III album in June.
Breakout is Cyrus’ second number one album (2007’s Hannah Montana 2/ Meet Miley Cyrus soundtrack was her first), and it replaces Nas’ untitled album as the number one album in the country. Country group Sugarland’s Love on the Inside replaces Tha Carter III as the number two album.
Here’s a video from Breakout for your perusal/derision. [Billboard]
