Los Angeles rockers Midnight Movies will release their sophomore album, Lion the Girl, April 24 on New Line Records. With a band name like that, you'd naturally expect lush cinematic flourishes in the sound. And you'd be right. Bewitching lead-singer Gena Olivier leads Midnight Movies through dark-hued reexaminations of '60s Cali psychadelia. Olivier is joined on the album, the follow-up to 2004's eponymous debut, by guitarist Larry Schemel and two new members, bassist Ryan Wood and drummer Sandra Vu. Lion the Girl was produced by Steve Fisk, who's logged time behind the boards with Nirvana and Screaming Trees. The band is expected to tour in support of the album in the spring.
