Here's part five of the proposed ten-part series of music videos from Midlake's album The Trials of Van Occupanther. The videos are being hosted by Bella Union Records and World's Fair Management over at YouTube. The video for "Balloon Maker" was directed by Jason Lee, who had the following to say about it: "The Balloon Maker video gives us in one piece of film, an unusual case of both historical and modern love." Midlake guitarist Eric Pulido also chimes in: "The Balloon Maker video was shot in our home town of Denton, TX. It was a special video for us to make due to the process and collaboration with Jason. Jason came down and spent the week here, helping to develop the idea for the video, in addition to filming and directing. We wanted to do something that was completely different from the lyrical content of the song, so Tim and I created a story that was more sci-fi in nature. With the added element of Jason's cinematography, including a black and white vignette effect, the haunting antiquity of the video evokes the feeling that you're watching something out of a cryptic vault from somewhere in time." I think I've finally found my Halloween costume for this year...
Don't steal my halloween costume idea :)
