Texan retro-prog band Midlake is set to release a four-song iTunes EP next week (September 4). Half of the songs on the EP, entitled Oak and Julian, come from last year's well-received The Trials of Van Occupanther, and the other half are rarities. Midlake's breakout Trials tune, "Roscoe," gets the acoustic treatment here, as does "It Covers the Hillsides." The two more obscure tracks are the soft, piano-based "Marion" and the full-band rouser "Mornings Will Be Kind," both of which have previously only been available on foreign vinyl releases. September 4 is also the date Midlake embarks on its latest round of U.S. touring. Those dates can be found back here.

Definitely catch them live if you get a chance. They put on an amazingly crafted, competent show. It's inspiring in a field still so enamored with sloppiness.
