Oscar-winning director Michel Hazanavicius (The Artist) is in talks to direct a film adaptation of Erik Larson’s book In the Garden of Beasts.
The book is a non-fiction story about William E. Dodd, a college professor who becomes America’s first ambassador to Germany during the early years of Adolf Hitler’s reign. Tom Hanks is attached to star as Dodd and is producing the film under his production company, Playtone, for Universal Studios. Natalie Portman is also being courted to play William’s daughter.
Hazanavicius is reported to be writing a new draft of the script and another writer will soon be on board. [Collider]
