Michael Keaton is set to play the villain in MGM’s upcoming remake of Robocop. Originally, the role was originally attached to House, M.D. star Hugh Laurie, who dropped out of the cast earlier this week.
Deadline reports that Keaton will be playing Raymond Sellars, the CEO of Omnicorp, the corporation that creates Robocop. Clive Owen was rumored to take the part after Laurie’s exit, but director Jose Padilha is excited to have Keaton aboard, saying “Michael is the final addition to the amazing cast we have assembled for this film and it is so great to have the last puzzle piece in place. It is thrilling that everything has come together to bring this innovative new vision of RoboCop to life.”
MGM is planning to finish Robocop in time for an Aug 9, 2013 release date.
