Michael Jackson's Estate Signs $250 Million Record Deal

Stars can often earn more money posthumously than they ever did while walking the planet, and it looks likely that Michael Jackson is going to continue that trend. The King of Pop’s estate is about to sign an incredible $250 million record deal with Sony Music, which could encompass up to ten projects over the next seven years.

Exactly how much unreleased Jackson material remains in the vaults is a mystery, but it’s likely that a number of rarities will be issued as part of this deal. The details of Sony’s forthcoming Jackson releases will be announced later today (March 16) when the corporation issues more information about this contract.

The prospect of ten projects in seven years means we’re likely to enter a period of unparalleled output in Jackson’s career. The five-year gaps between albums that were common throughout the ‘80s and ‘90s may have been frustrating for fans, but this Sony deal is likely to head in the direction of overkill—let’s just hope someone exercises some quality control.

I'm sure there's a market for it, but I wonder what the odds are that 10 albums' worth of quality stuff exists.
