Michael Jackson was set to put his money worries behind him by announcing an incredible run of shows at the 02 Arena in London. But wherever there’s lucre there’s a lawsuit, and Jackson’s former publicist, Raymone Bain, is suing him for a cool $44 million.
Bain alleges that she had had an agreement in place with the King of Pop that allowed her to receive 10 per cent of profits from deals she was involved in, including the mammoth residency in London. Jackson is playing 50 sold out shows at the 02 Arena, but Bain is also after other money she believes Jackson owes her, including cash related to the relaunch of his Thriller album.
"It is with deep regret that I find myself at this place,” Bain said in a video statement. "Having to file a lawsuit against my longtime employer, and someone whom I have greatly admired and respected, Michael Jackson. Despite the action I have been compelled to take for professional and business reasons, when looking back, I have no regrets.” She finishes her statement with a bizarre addendum: "Michael Jackson, in my opinion, is the King of Pop."
