As predicted yesterday, Michael Jackson has broke multiple Billboard chart records after his albums sales skyrocketed following his death last week.
Jackson's Number Ones compilation claimed the top spot on Billboard Catalog Album Chart (albums that are older than 18 months), moving 108,000 copies. The Essential Michael Jackson took the number two spot with 102,000 copies sold, and Thriller moved 101,000 copies at number three. But that's not all, Jackson held down nine of the top 10 spots on the Catalog Charts, with his Bad claiming number four, Jackson 5's The Ultimate Collection at five, Bad at six, Dangerous at seven, Greatest Hits: HIStory Volume 1 at number 8, and his 2004 box set, The Ultimate Collection at number nine. The lone non-Jackson album in the top ten was the Woodstock soundtrack at number ten.
Furthermore, the top three Jackson albums sold more that the number one album on Billboard's Top 200, crushing the Black Eyed Peas The E.N.D. by 20,000 copies, as that album only moved 88,000 copies. It's the first time that a Catalog Album has ever beat the top album in the country in sales.
All in all, Jackson's albums sold a collective 415,000 this week, which almost double what Jackson's albums sold all this year. Jackson also claimed a record 25 songs out of the top 75 Hot Digital Songs, and six of the top ten digital albums, which is just crazy. [Billboard]
