Jermaine Jackson gave a surprise announcement yesterday, stating that the Jackson 5 were getting back together, with “Michael, Randy and the whole family." But fans who are eagerly anticipating hearing pop classics such as “ABC” and “I Want You Back” on Jermaine’s mooted 2009 reunion tour won’t be happy at today’s announcement from Michael Jackson, who says he won’t be involved.
Michael has issued the following statement through Scoop Marketing:
"My brothers and sisters have my full love and support, and we've certainly shared many great experiences, but at this time I have no plans to record or tour with them. I am now in the studio developing new and exciting projects that I look forward to sharing with my fans in concert soon.”
The tour is unlikely to be such a big box office draw without Michael on board, but that’s unlikely to stop Jermaine from persisting with the idea. He made similar reunion claims in the English media following his appearance on the ratings-grabbing reality TV show Celebrity Big Brother in 2007. As for Michael, it’s Halloween today, and who isn’t tempted to watch this at some point during the day? [LA Times]
