Michael Jackson Memorial Concerts Postponed

The unwise decision to stage an ill-fated run of Michael Jackson shows at the 02 Arena in London undoubtedly played a part in his death. But the venue was seeking to make amends by staging two special tribute shows to the singer, the first of which would have been held on Jackson’s birthday on August 29.

The shows would have featured many of Jackson’s siblings, and stars such as Justin Timberlake and Leona Lewis were mentioned as potential guests. But a distinct lack of performers willing to commit to the project has caused its cancellation, although the tribute shows may be rescheduled in 2010.

“If they ever happen, it will not be until next year. We didn’t want to rush out something that was sub-standard - we would rather wait until we have got the best possible people,” an ‘insider’ told the London Paper. In other Jackson news, his former manager Dieter Wiesner has claimed that the singer was “out of control" on prescription medication.
