Michael Jackson Documentary, "This Is It," Coming To DVD In January

The unfortunate fallout from the death of Michael Jackson is the parade of merchandise forced onto consumers, climaxing with the pre-death concert rehearsal documentary, This Is It. Directed by Kenny Ortega, the film has been a success at the box-office, pulling in $168 million worldwide since it hit theaters in October. A whole new host of fans who were rattling their cribs when the singer was at his height of popularity have come out of nowhere. Death seems to have rewarded the King of Pop the true comeback he deserved.

Just in time to capitalize on the post-Christmas rush of kids with gift certificates, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is releasing This Is It on DVD and Blu-Ray on January 26, 2010. Along with the film comes over 90 minutes of extras, including special documentaries on the comeback tour and featurettes on the costumes and dance auditions. "Memories of Michael," also included on the disc, features remembrances of the singer by the director and crew of the film.

The DVD will push the Jackson-nostalgia train well into the Spring season, when the inevitable biographies about the singer and his troubled life will surely turn up in stores. [Billboard]
