M.I.A. originally wanted to film the video for this very powerful song in a factory on Ecuador's border but scheduling conflicts due to her U.S. tour made Bed-Stuy a more convenient shooting locale. Despite the fact that she made non-violent, “ambiguous” MTV-friendly version of what she had envisioned, a censored version of “Paper Planes” ended up on You Tube (via MTV) anyway.
