Edmonton’s Sun Media is reporting Maya Arulpragasam, better known to you and me as M.I.A, is engaged to Benjamin Brewer, guitarist for New York indie rock band The Exit (they had a song on the not-so-indie American Pie 2). But more importantly, his pops is Edgar Bronfman, Jr., Warner Music Group chairman and CEO. But even cooler, he is the heir to the Seagram whiskey throne.
The report names no official sources, so this is all up in the air at this point. No word on if the couple has set a date, or whether they’ll be wearing blue wigs and pastel stretch pants at the ceremony.
M.I.A.'s politics and populism will grant an air of legitimacy to the Bronfman empire's money-grubbing, and in return, every single future M.I.A. tour will be entirely bankrolled by Seagram's. It's a fair trade.
