M.I.A. banks 100K for performance and pledges school donation

Even though she just announced her engagement, there are still plenty of reasons to be in love with British/Sri Lankan rap diva M.I.A. She collected one hundred thousand dollars Sunday for a thirty-minute performance at an MTV Movie Awards after-party sponsored by Target and Converse One Star. While many musicians would blow the cash immediately or try to hide it from the taxman, M.I.A. announced her paycheck during the concert and then said that she would be using the money to build schools in Liberia, where a measly two grand will fund a thousand students. To show that she could still party Hollywood style despite having a social conscience, M.I.A. closed the show by inviting female party attendees, including Jessica Szohr, Jessica Stroup and Rumer Willis, onstage to dance to “Paper Planes.” [The Daily Swarm]
