M.I.A. has been active on Twitter again lately, is readying the much anticipated Sleigh Bells album for her Mom + Pop label, and has a new album of her own due. It’s going to be a busy year for Maya Arulpragasam, although few details about her forthcoming third record are available at present.
But this weekend’s Coachella offered us a little more information—the album is set to be released on June 29 according to an advertisement carried on a blimp that hovered over the crowd during Jay-Z’s set. The blimp carried information about two M.I.A. shows at the HARD festivals in Los Angeles on July 17 and New York on July 24.
Following that announcement was a message that simply said “New album 6.29.10,” which means it will be issued one week after the already announced Japanese release date (in other words, it’s almost certainly going to leak early). Switch, Blaqstarr, Diplo, and Derek Miller from Sleigh Bells are all thought to have made contributions to the as-yet untitled record.
