MGMT Respond To Label "Difficulties" And Piss-Throwing

It didn't take long for yesterday's story of MGMT drummer Will Berman allegedly being hit with a cup of pee to go viral. It also didn't take long for MGMT to respond, as Andrew VanWyngarden e-mailed Pitchfork and told them it was Manchester Ale, not pee, and Berman left when he always does: right before "Congratulations." That could be a band trying to squash the notion they got liquid gold thrown at them, but VanWyngarden went on to dismiss the notion that the band was gearing up for a fight with label Columbia.

As for the whole label-not-giving-them-artistic-freedom thing, we aren't even close to starting the process of making a new album, label-relations are currently quite friendly, we are very proud of "Congratulations" and the new videos, looking forward to making more music on Columbia, and the (mostly sold out) world tour has been going splendidly THANKS FOR ASKING. Don't believe everything that you read (even on Pitchfork.com).

The MGMT backlash is going well enough without people makin stuff up, though the idea of someone throwing pee at them is hilarious.

No it's not hilarious. It's disgusting. Luckily, it wasn't true.

I loved Andrew's response. It was genius.
