It's been almost four years since the release of Metric's third album, Live It Out, and the band's apparently decided that that course of action's not all it's cracked up to be. Fantasies is the title of the band's new album, and it comes on April 14 in the U.S., released by the band themselves.
Explains Metric member Emily Haines, "When we got out of our record deal we took meetings with all the usual suspects, the major labels and the big indies, It was strange having some real choices for the first time in our career while also feelings like whichever deal we chose was going to end up being restrictive and force us to compromise creatively. At one point, we just said 'oh fuck it, let's gamble' took deep breath and decided to put this record out worldwide our own way."
So in Canada the album will be released by Last Gang Records, in Mexico by Arts & Crafts, and in the U.S., UK, continental Europe, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand, the band set up distribution and their own staff to handle the record's release.
The band has also been asked by producer Nigel Goodrich (Radiohead, U2, Beck) to contribute an original song, "Black Sheep," to the movie Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, starring Michael Cera.
Metric's scheduled to start a U.S. tour in support of Fantasies in June, with dates expected soon.
